Tomas Ourednicek (307): “Eindelijk weer eens goed gereden

After two days of frustration, caused by too hot fuel (vapor lock), Czech 4x4-driver Tomas Ourednicek finally tested the power of his South Racing Ford to the limit. “We did business today. In the dunes our car was at his best. The last few days, we had to stop too much. Today we could keep the pace – finally! It would’ve been a shame to get into trouble again in such a beautiful stage. My navigator did a fabulous job. It’s his first desert rally, but he didn’t make one mistake. And that’s not as obvious as it sounds.’

Agostino Rizzardi (301) “Mechanical problems, minutes before the start of the race”

Before the start of the third leg, Agostino Rizzardi and his navigator were on their backs under the Porsche 911, only minutes before they had to start. “Yesterday we had some problems with the gearbox. We worked till four o’clock last night to solve the problems, but due to stress and fatigue, the mechanics forgot to place a rubber valve. We had to do it right before the start, but couldn’t find it right away. Luckily other teams helpe dus.”

The stage went smooth for Rizzardi. “It was real fun: sand, wadi, dunes and a roadbook with some surprises for navigators. The sand in the dunes was real soft and there was lots of wind. The tyre tracks were invisible, so we had to find our way on our own. It’s challenging and I like it.

Pedro de Uriarte (303): “More difficult than last year”

The Mexican Pedro de Uriarte made his debut in Libya Rally last year and didn’t disappoint. His return in the Morocco Desert Challenge on the other hand hasn’t been really succesful. “The level of racing is much higher than last year and we had a lot of problems as well: day 1 our chassis broke, on day 2 we were cut off by another car and hit a rock. But you know, that’s rally.”
